How Do We Define Climate Change Environmental Sciences Essay
Global clime alteration comprises alterations in long-term norms of twenty-four hours by twenty-four hours atmospheric status. Likewise long-term planetary clime alterations, in that regard are shorter status clime discrepancies. These climatically discrepancy may be comprised by cyclic or periodical interchanges attach toing, eruptions, or extra displacements in the planetary agreement. Concisely, clime follows long-term form of conditions status in a specific part. A few work forces of scientific discipline define climate the average atmospheric status for a specific portion and period of clip, by and large appropriated 30-years. It is truly a just attack form of atmospheric status for a curious country. As work forces of scientific discipline discuss clime, they are sing mean out of precipitation, temperature, humidity, sunshine, weaving speed, phenomena such as mist, freezing, and herald violent storms, and excess measurings of the conditions status that fall out across by clip period in a primary mark. For case, later sing rain pot information, lake and unreal lake grades, and orbiter informations, work forces of scientific discipline can state whenever during a summertime, a part represented drier than ordinary status. If it stays drier across the way of several summer times, than it would expected to demo a convert in the clime. Harmonizing to Encarta dictionary fluctuation in planetal conditions status forms: A long-term alteration in worldwide conditions figures, peculiarly growings in temperature and violent storm action, looked upon an expected result of the greenhouse event.Literature ReviewIPCC ( International Panel for Climate Change ) says unequivocally that the positions of technological idea represents that universe clime is being bore upon by human actions. Human Acts of the Apostless are altering the denseness of atmospherically factors that occupy or disperse bright energy. Almost the noticed warming up across the reasoning 50 ages comprises the increase in nursery emanation densenesss. Policy-makers and the mediums, particularly in the U.S.A, Oftentimes insist that clime scientific subject represents extremely doubtful. A few clasp this for a argument versus geting unobtrusive Numberss to cut back nursery emanation. Numerous inside information virtually on clime cardinal interactions are non we ll realized, and there are plentiful cause for go oning enquiry to supply a finer foundation for recognizing clime dynamicss. ( Oreskes, 2004 ) .Climate:Harmonizing to the lexicon, clime is defined as: ââ¬Å" The complex or by and large predominating upwind conditions of a part, as temperature, air force per unit area, humidness, precipitation, sunlight, cloud cover, and air currents, throughout the twelvemonth, averaged over a series of old ages â⬠.Weather:Whereas, conditions can be defined as: ââ¬Å" The province of the ambiance at a given clip and topographic point, with regard to variables such as temperature, wet, air current speed, and barometric force per unit area â⬠.Global Heating:Harmonizing to Botkin and Kelle R ( 2007 ) , Global Warming can be defined as: ââ¬Å" Addition in mean planetary temperature â⬠or ââ¬Å" Global heating is when the Earth heats up ( the temperature rises ) . It happens when nursery gases ( C dioxide, H2O vapour, azotic oxide, and methane ) trap heat and visible radiation from the Sun in the Earth ââ¬Ës ambiance, which increase s the temperature â⬠. This contributes to the assorted environmental job and it does hold positive facets excessively. These all are discussed in later in the argument on both sides of the issues.Green House Consequence:Another natural procedure is the green house consequence. Greenhouse consequence is good every bit long as it is go oning at its moderate degree. But when the bound of Green House Effect increases, it is toxic for the human existences.Global Dimming:Mobile pinpoints in the air, discharged since the beginning of the technological revolution, think of lower sunlight contacts the orbiter aboveground. These microscopic pinpoints reflect the sunlight heat back off to distance ââ¬â planetary dimming. Manufacturing units like industries and conveyance are cutting down discharges, which is amending air quality. This could cut down the worldwide darkening result, and intend planetary heating might go on faster and be more terrible.Events Of worldwide darkeningThe impacts of worldwide darkening are tragical. It has already defeated bing beings on heavy grade. The reflective back up of heat energy has converted the organic structure of H2O of northern cerebral hemisphere colder. With organic structures of H2O temperature depressing lower rainfall is rendered and the demanded step of rainfall is ran out to carry through The Sahel, northwards Africa. It is at present discovered that the composite famine ââ¬Ës of 1970s and 1980s were stimulated by the lower sum of rains down. The BBC docudrama movie reasoned out that the smoke looking from human dynamos and pipages of northern U.S.A. and Europe is responsible for the devastation of 1000000s of populate in Africa although constructing the life of more than 50 million multitudes which were hapless. It is figured that one million millions of multitudes in Asia will be impacted by the worldwide blackening. The monsoon rain of Asia supply rain to virtually one-half of the earths population. If world-wide blackening will be capable to decrease the sum of rainfalls so one-half of the humanistic disciplines ( around three billion people ) will be hungering.Positive consequence of Global DimmingThe advantageous position of worldwide darkening comprises that it compensates the forceful results of worldwide warming. It is anticipated by the planetary clime alteration examples that the temperature of land will derive by five points by the undermentioned century. The affair has soon underrated the effect of worldwide warming. The most critical mark in that discourse is the world that if thrusts are made up to look into worldwide darkening than world-wide warming will be in turn disclosed. The beams of visible radiation of Sun can be recalled upon Earth by runing the discharge from diligences but it will be directed to increasingly worldwide warming as the nursery emanations are on manus in abundance in the air. To unclutter up on the instance let us reexamine the case of Europe in 2003. Europe drives to do clean the ambiance from pollutants without bearing in head the overweening measure of nursery emanations. As an result, the sum of harmful pinpoints came down where the figure of nursery emanations stayed indistinguishable. It without uncertainty reduced the strength of feminine in Sahel by turning the figure of rainfalls but it besides produced the awful heat energy axial rotation in 2003 that shot down 1000s of multitudes in Portugal and France and affected the celibate with a figure of extra events. Small nomadic molecules ( aerosols ) from natural roots, such as blowholes, wildfires, dust, sea-salt sprayer and desert littorals every bit good hold a chilling system consequence on the planet so deducing the affect of wholly all instances of aerosols on the clime is important.Argument on clime alterationThere are fundamentally two types of positions when it comes to the grounds of the planetary heating. The first position is that planetary heating is happening of course and has nil to make with human ingestion and activities. Whereas, the 2nd position is that Human activity causes planetary heating. Largely, groundss are on the side that human activity causes planetary heating. As, NASA says in the universe book that most of the scientists who are climatologists, they believe that human activity causes planetary heating. The anthropogenetic activity causes planetary warming in such a manner that the increased usage of fossil fuels and deforestation leads to the increased green hou se consequence which finally leads to the planetary heating, The combustion of fossil fuels create C dioxide which is a green house gas. This C dioxide so goes into the ambiance and lead to the green house consequence. In the same manner, glade of trees from land besides leads to the accretion of C dioxide in the ambiance and contributes to planetary heating. The other position provinces that addition in the sum of green house gases is non that massive that it leads to planetary heating. This procedure has occurred of course as the sum of heat emitted by Sun is increased. This natural phenomenon can be the ground of planetary heating, the scientists against this construct says that increased in the radiation of Sun has lead to the recent warming non planetary heating. Furthermore, in the clime argument of ââ¬Å" what ââ¬Ës warming us up? Human Activity or Mother Nature â⬠on scientific discipline day-to-day intelligence, there are no protagonists of merely one side, instead bulk in the Inter-governmental International Panel on Climate Change IPCC and Non-governmental International Panel on Climate Change ( NIPCC ) are the protagonists of both scenarios. They say that human ingestion and natural warming both wholly are the grounds of the planetary heating and non merely one alone can be the ground of planetary heating. The argument can be farther categorized by the information in favour of clime alteration and against the clime alteration.Information in favour of clime alterationA Paper was issued by United Nations in february that grounds out that worldwide warming is traveling on and will transport on since 100s. The article likewise expressed with big certain thing that the human activities has followed the basic ground of accelerative temperatures during the past old ages, on those coatings and the findings of other work forces of scientific discipline that worldwide warming up is present and will transport on into the predictable clip to come. ( Rosenberg, 2010 ) . A more distinguished works life development and gentler clime is assumed by scientists in Arctic, Antarctic, Siberia, and extra glacial parts of universe as a effect of planetary clime alteration. It is similarly pretended that the undermentioned glacial period perchance be kept from taking topographic point. Climate convert succeeds energy outgo to a lesser extent to warm up cold points. Cold conditions status makes less deceasing or injuries when equated to ramping atmospheric status. Warm conditions conditions consequences in enhanced agrarian output in some localised parts. Hot conditions bring in mountains gain in height because of runing down glaciers, traveling more high as they bounce versus the dropping weight of the ice. Global clime alteration sets an terminal to Boundary challenges between provinces across lowland islands. ( Rosenberg, 2010 ) . Numerous multitudes think that human-caused discharges of nursery emanation will direct to more high-pitched temperatures and exaggerated precipitation during the 21st 100. Likewise, it is conceived that these displacements might bear an invasion on economical public assistance. Newly geographic expedition or findings cast off current visible radiation with unitary important position. It is seen that changes in temperatures and precipitation prefigure by the acceptable forms of planetary clime alteration will in world do good to agribusiness in U.S.A.. They discover that the drawn-out developing times of twelvemonth and contributed precipitation entailed by the virtually quoted world-wide clime interchange will be given to step-up agriculture end products and thereby raise the favorableness of agribusiness. The forms of planetary clime alteration anticipate that, ordinary temperatures will originate from about 50F and precipitation will eventually average out around eight inches much yearly. Using these prediction, aggregated with the effects of agone hesitations in temperature and precipitation, it is reasoned out that farming productivity in the United States is in all chance to go up slightly around 4 per centum referable to climate alteration, bring forthing profitable net incomes. ( Benjamin, 2007 ) . A Modern examines by Spiegel searches the favourable chances of worldwide warming. Following are a few inside informations which will bear informant that worldwide warming will do northwards intellectual hemisphere more light-green: The effect of age long study by work forces of scientific discipline discovers the world that the flora in northern cerebral hemisphere gets expanded 8 to 12 per centum over in the North America and Eurasia. This demonstrates that at the continent-wide ordered series, atmospherical C dioxide, temperature, and precipitation reply for for 49 % , 31 % , and 13 % of the growing ingrowing clip of twelvemonth. Brought up dumbness of C dioxide heightens fertilisation consequence, that will work wonders upon workss that employ wholly three of the taking bio chemic piece of lands of photosynthesis The productivity of herbs can be supercharged about a 3rd in reaction to a 300ppm growing in the air ââ¬Ës C dioxide substance. Contrarily, ligneous works will exhibit an add-on in development of 50 % . A study carried by National Aeronautics and Space Administration scientists on equatorial forests in Africa, Asia, and the Amazon exposed that the new displacements in atmospherical C dioxide and clime advanced planetal gross. Worldwide warming up ballads out with opportunities and takes exclusion.Information Against Climate ChangeClimate alteration leads to defy Ocean circulation which causes unidentified results on universe clime. Greater low-lying caputs to overruning of low-lying evidences and devastations and disease from downpour and riddance takes topographic point. Deserts acquire dry go forthing to increased desertification. Transportations to farming end product that can head to alimentary deficits. Climate alteration causes H2O supply dearths in already water-scarce countries Famishment, malnutrition, and enhanced deceasing ascribable to alimentary and harvest shortages. More utmost conditions and an increased frequence of terrible and ruinous storms is the result of such a planetary alteration. It leads to raised disease in human existences and other life animals. Enhanced deaths from heating moving ridges are caused. Extinction of more species o f animals and works life. Want of animate being and works life place evidences are good seen. More frequent exile of those from lower lands move to more flush to seek better or non-deadly fortunes. It requires a auxiliary exercising of energy resourcefulness for temperature decrease. Raised air taint is one of its effects.Expanded allergic reaction and bronchial asthma gaits ascribable to earliest blossoming. Dissolving of permafrost foliages to desolation of societal construction, landslides, and axial rotations down have become a day-to-day portion of Earth ââ¬Ës change. It induces enduring want of glaciers. Increased sourness in rainfall to great extents which have truly worst effects on environment. Destruction of woods leads to heighten forest Burnss in sizing and impregnation. ( Rosenberg, 2010 ) . Climate alteration addresses the diffuse of disease. As northern countries warm up, disease keeping worms transmigrate north, presenting harass and disease with them. So a few work forces of scientific discipline conceive that it is because of worldwide warming that malaria has n't eliminated. Warm clime gets heater organic structures of H2O and legion hurricanes for the temperature of seas comes up, hence will the opportunity of more regular hurricanes gets increased. This leads to spread out chance and volume of drouths and heat flourishes and some part s will endure serious drouths and heat moving ridges. Harmonizing to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, worldwide warming will decline the footings and forced wars between parts. Worldly issues of the results of anthropogenetic planetary heating wo n't be good. Hurricanes tend to pass one million millions of dollars in equipment casualty, diseases cost gross to procedure and laterality and conflicts worsen wholly the who le. ( Simmons, 2010 ) . ââ¬Å" The evidences for a warming orbiter is supported by lessons of prevailing eruptions in a part called the Siberian Traps. While the orbiter warmed up, heavy measures of glacial methane gas below the sea might hold been discharged to trip off flight greenhouse warming â⬠, Ward said. Ward said. ââ¬Å" It got hotter and hotter until it reached a critical point and everything died, â⬠. ââ¬Å" It was a double-whammy of heater temperatures and low O, and most life could n't cover with it â⬠. â⬠More than 90 per centum of all species were wiped out â⬠. ( Brit, 2005 ) .Discussion And DecisionSo we have seen assorted facets of planetary clime alteration both in favour and against it. These are backed up by surveies of different people and scientists. In my position the disadvantages or drawbacks of planetary clime alteration are more of worth to detect the environmental effects so does the advantages of such alteration. Several points have been mentioned by Rosinberg, Simmons and Brit like diseases, inundations, starvations, sick nutriments, ozone depletion and deceases of life animals, which I think are more of import in a large image of environmental alterations which tend to harm the environment at most. Hence I will reason my research study as planetary heating or planetary clime alteration have inauspicious effects on the nature and life beings. The jobs are more in figure and at extremes than the advantages of planetary clime alteration.

Business Practice in Australia
Some rural communities will not have the same exposure to immigrants and international visitors, although the popularity of Australia as a budget traveler destination has affected that. Generally variety is accepted and people of many cultures will be seen in the workplace and are accepted. Indeed, a criticism that has been leveled against Australian business organizations has been their slowness to take up the challenge of international. Source 4) Thus, Australia finds itsel f needing to become ever more international in its outlook both economically and politically. The extremely successful economy is dependent upon trade with both the US and increasingly with key Asian countries such as China, Japan and India. Traditional British Commonwealth links have been declining in importance over several decades. ( Source 4) In short Australia is a small market with a highly educated, affluent population which realizes the importance of international trade ââ¬â they are waiting to do business with you! ( Source 4) Australian Business Structures people do not give the impression that they ââ¬Ëthink they are somebody'.It is much better to be seen as a ââ¬Ëgood bloke' or a ââ¬Ëgood mate' than somebody who is overtly proud of themselves and their achievements. Australian business thinking is based on US business modeling where people would have conflict with influence to be slavish with others who are in favor of US style entrepreneurial. ( Source 5) Th ese dispute combination leads Australian organization to be fairly non-hierarchical in their structure. Attention is paid to titles and ranking with the organizations. Thus NY integration organization looking to set up operation in country should be well advised against their behavior of business structure.Similarly, do not be too surprised if Australian business contacts seem willfully disrespectful of hierarchy when working internationally ââ¬â they are not being rude, merely acting in a consistent Australian manner. ( Source 5) (Source 4 & 5: Horticulturalists. Com/ Australian Business Structure. Challenging the idea of boss in open meeting is not at all consider as rude or disrespectful on contrary it is found as committed or an professional approach, therefore it is compulsory to adopt consultative style of management which is inclusive of person's opinions or an open debate of ideas. In keeping with the Australian direct style of communication, debates between senior and Junior executives may appear from the outside as confrontational and occasionally they rarely are. This style of interaction is merely viewed as the most acrimonious ? effective way of attaining the end goal. ( Source 6) Australian managers to not remain aloof from members of their team ? they usually want to be ââ¬Ëone of the boys' and be seen as ââ¬Ëa good bloke'. The idea of managers only socializing with other managers would be viewed as very affected and would be likely to result in alienation. ( Source & 6: Horticulturalists. Post planning culture is very well known in Australia prior to client facing meetings where little preparation is done before to attend such meetings. As an egalitarian approach, Australian are often set as an forum for open debate of an issue during meeting and found professional in doing so.Being ââ¬Ëover- prepared' for meetings can result in certain negative feelings towards those who have prepared in advance as they can be seen to be trying to dictate and force their ideas on other people. If something important arises during the open debate it will not be excluded simply because it does not occur on the agenda. ( Source 7) Source 7 : Horticulturalists. ( Source 9) It is important not to be too self-promotional when presenting to Australians. A hard sell approach can often be misconstrued as bragging and can provoke a very negative response. Remember that people do not like to make out that they are better than others ? the same probably applies to products and services. A factual description of issues will be far better received than a more hyperbolic approach. Source 9) First names are invariably used in all business situations in Australia. It would be very unusual to call a business contact by their surname. Similarly, educational titles play relatively little part in business situations. (Source 9: Horticulturalists. Whilst progress is being made, statistics will show that women are still paid comparatively less for doing the same Job as a man.On the other hand, women have made more progress in attaining managerial positions than in many other leading industrialists nations and more and more women are reaching the highest levels o f Australian organizations. (Source 10) :horticulturalists. Mom/ Women in business in Australia Australian Dress Code In corporate Australia, standard business dress is still very much the norm. Dark suits and ties are the standard dress for management level businessmen with women wearing business suits with either skirts or trousers.Remember that, for much of the year, Australia is a very hot country ââ¬â so make sure that your clothing is lightweight and cool during those periods. Try to avoid excessive Jewelry and accessories which may be viewed as too ââ¬Ëflashy' and therefore unprofessional. ( Source 1 1 : Horticulturalists. Mom/Australian dress code. HTML) Australian Etiquette & Customs ( Source 12) Meeting Etiquette Australians are not very formal so greetings are casual and relaxed. A handshake and smile suffices. While an Australian may say, ââ¬ËGiddy' or ââ¬ËGiddy, mate', this may sound patronizing from a foreigner.Visitors should simply say, ââ¬ËHello' or ââ¬ËHello, how are you? ââ¬Ë Gussies prefer to use first names, even at the initial meeting Gift Giving Etiquette Small gifts are commonly exchanged with family members, close friends, and neighbors on birthdays and Christmas. Trades people such as sanitation workers ay be given a small amount of cash, or more likely, a bottle of wine or a six-pack of beer! If invited to someone's home for dinner, it is polite to bring a box of chocolates are opened when received. Dining Etiquette Many invitations to an Gussies home will be for a ââ¬ËBarbie' (BBC).Guests to a barbeques typically bring wine or beer for their personal consumption. In some cases, very informal barbecues may suggest that you bring your own meat! Arrive on time if invited to dinner; no more than 15 minutes late if invited too barbeques or a large party. (Source 12: Kiss, Bow, Shake hand , Page 25-26) Successful Entertaining in Australia There is no great tradition for business entertaining in Australia and it ce rtainly shouldn't be viewed as the quick way to cement relationships with a new client or contact. In fact, you are more likely to be asked out for lunch or dinner once a firm relationship has been established ââ¬â in this way the meal can in no way be seen to have influenced a business decision. People will very often ââ¬Ëgo Dutch' over a meal ââ¬â this means that the bill is split equally amongst those present at the meal. If you wish to pay, make sure you make this clear before the meal to avoid any embarrassing abates when the bill is presented. ( Source 13) If invited to a pub or bar for a drink, it is very important to make sure you pay your ââ¬Ëshout' ââ¬â that means that everybody is expected to pay for a round of drinks. It is unadvisable to develop a reputation as someone who does not pay for his or her fair share of the drinks! Tipping is not always necessary but is usually expected at the better restaurants. Tips are usually for about 10% of the total bil l. (Source 13 : Worldliness culture website- Entertaining in Australia. HTML ) Appendix Source: World Business Culture -Australia/ Tips to live and to do business in Australia . Although Australia is relatively geographically remote and has a small domestic market, it is economically successful and its citizens have a comparatively high standard of living. . Due to its small domestic market, Australia needs to trade actively on the international market place and Australians know this ââ¬â they are open to new ideas from overseas. 3. Australians prize their egalitarian approach to life- people should not try to make out that they are better than others. 4. This egalitarian world view is mirrored in many aspects of Australian business culture from corporate truckers to management and communication style. 5. On the whole, Australian hierarchical approach tends to sit uneasily in egalitarian Australia. 6.Managers try to develop a ââ¬Ëmate' relationship with their colleagues and w ould be viewed negatively if they tried to seem aloof from subordinates. 7. Everybody expects to have an input into the decision-making process even if, in the final analysis, the boss still makes the decision. If the boss makes the decision with no prior consultation, it unlikely that people will be very keen to ensure implementation. 8. Decision-making meetings can e quite animated and it is expected that people will say exactly what they think without necessarily having to defer automatically to the boss' viewpoint. . Although Australians will say that they value punctuality as a professional necessity, do not be surprised if people appear five to ten minutes late for a meeting. 10. Some small talk is usually engaged in before the meeting proper starts. This stage of the meeting is, however, rarely protracted (five minutes or less. ) 1 1 . Australians tend to plan in less detail than certain other countries 12. The object of a meeting is often to explore the arioso possibilities available at that time, in order to determine what detailed actions may need to be taken after the meeting 13.Agendas are often produced at meetings but will not, necessarily, be strictly adhered to. Some deviation is allowed if it is felt to be constructive deviation. This is viewed as pragmatic. 14. Australians like to be viewed as good team players and will try very hard to play the role. 15. Teams are best managed by somebody who wants to be part of the team, rather than somebody who wished to be seen as apart from the team. 16. A team leader should IEEE themselves the ââ¬Ëfirst amongst equals'. 17. Australians like people to say exactly what is on their mind.Hiding your views behind diplomatic language can be seen as evasiveness. 18. Never try to ââ¬Ëhard sell' things to Australians who will probably view such an approach as bragging. Such an approach will invariably backfire in Australia. 19. Humor is an oft-used communication device in Australian business circles. It is difficult to envisage many situations where the use of humor would be deemed inappropriate. 20. Business attire in Australia tends towards the formal with suits ND ties the norm for men in management positions in major cities.Appendix II Australian Society & Culture Susie Modesty Australians are very down to earth and always mindful of not giving the impression that they think they are better than anyone else. They value authenticity, sincerity, and loathe pretentiousness. Australians prefer people who are modest, humble, self- deprecating and with a sense of humor. They do not draw attention to their academic or other achievements and tend to distrust people who do. They often downplay their own success, which may make them appear not to be achievement- oriented. Mates Australians place a high value on relationships.

Fast food position paper Essay
America, also known as the ââ¬Å"Land of Opportunityâ⬠is just that. Many people have seized the opportunity to buy a piece of the American Dream, by starting a variety of businesses, franchises, and other personal ventures. The Fast Food Industry is a perfect example as it can range from small private owned restaurants to large franchises bringing in millions of dollars per day. These restaurants offer a vast variety of foods for the indulgence of their customers with options as far as the eye can see. However, the success of this industry does not come without a price. Because of the severity of the health risks including destructive eating patterns associated with fast food consumption, owners should take personal responsibility in protecting consumers from the harmful ingredients served in their restaurants. The fast food industryââ¬â¢s irresponsibility of serving harmful ingredients to the public and disregard for overall consumer health in America is directly responsi ble for our nationââ¬â¢s epidemic of obesity related illnesses leading to death and should be penalized under law as neglectful practices. Many consumers enjoy the many varieties of fast food offered as they appeal to every taste, culture, and guilty pleasure and can be very easily obtained. The option of getting any ethnic food, at any time, with ease of convenience is looked upon as a great privilege and a luxury. However, due to such a vast (and continually expanding) number of these restaurants, there is a direct connection linking these foods to many eating disorders. Abusive eating habits contribute largely to the massive intake of fast food in our country often leading to frequent and destructive overeating. Many scholars and researchers are defining this food as being addictive. This type of food is designed to stimulate overeating, typically by using a combination of sugar, salt and fat, all shown by research to be addictive. The ingredients of fast food tend to be of poor quality and unappetizing, the addictive ingredients ensure a huge turnover of high calorie food, which can lead to obesity and poor nutritio n. Many eating disorders are often developed in this place of excess. Binge eating involves consuming a large amount of food in a short space of time. Many restaurant owners believe that it is the individual consumerââ¬â¢s responsibility to make the decision of what they purchase and consume thus leaving them free from responsibility. They wash their hands of responsibility in a sense, crediting the customerââ¬â¢s ability to make wise decisions. They believe thatà they are not ââ¬Å"forcingâ⬠anyone to do anything against their will, but only creating options in this land of opportunity. I believe that there should be responsibility taken on the parts of owners, managers, and manufactures in the fast food industry. There needs to be some sort of consideration and concern for the overall health of the public consumer. Owners should take responsibility for not only the cleanliness of the facility but the content of the food as in relation to excessive sodium, fat intake, and sugar overload. If every individual owner took this additional step, the health of many Americans would not be jeopardized every day. The Fast Food industry is one that has made up a large part of Americaââ¬â¢s economy and culture. In our ââ¬Å"microwaveâ⬠society, we are faced with food options seemingly on every corner. We have unlimited choices and pleasures from every food category. However, with all of this freedom of choice, many consumers tend to be unaware of the harmful ingredients used to prepare what we so enthusiastically embrace. Over time, these foods lead to diseases often causing death. The consumption of fast food presents us with an underlying issue on a much larger scale. Many of the food ingredients served in this industry are unhealthy leading to obesity related diseases often leading to death. The food most often consumed at fast food restaurants, hamburgers, tacos, fried chicken and French-fries, is loaded with sodium, saturated fats, trans fats, cholesterol and calories. Many health risks are directly associated with an excess of these ingredients listed above. While Fast Food businesses flourish, the overall health of their consumers is compromised. It is vital to understand the effects of these foods so we can make more informed decisions for ourselves and our families.

Do you like chocolate?
ââ¬Å"Do you like chocolate? â⬠If asked, most people would smile and say, ââ¬Å"of course I do. â⬠But if that same person asked if you thought chocolate was a good for your health, even beneficial, youââ¬â¢d probably have some doubts. For those doubters: Think again. Evidence has lead scientists and health-specialists around the world to agree that chocolate can be beneficial to your health. Dark chocolate has gotten a bad rap, almost since the late 1800ââ¬â¢s when a man named Hershey began an empire lacking the true essence of chocolate. Today, when people consider cardiovascular strength and fitness, chocolate is probably one of the last things theyââ¬â¢d add to a health-conscious diet regimen. Then, if we pair dark chocolate consumption with empowering the heart, people would be waiting for the punch line. Dark chocolate and a good healthy heart can, in fact, be allies. But there are some rules and guidelines that must be followed. Christopher Columbus, during his ship-going years, made a stop off the Honduras coast and discovered that natives had a strange almond-like nut. It was a cacao bean, the heart of what chocolate is. Chocolate, specifically dark chocolate, has received kudos from scientific research. Researchers correlate dark chocolate to a component of a healthy diet. When we enter the dessert and snack world of chocolate, there is potential for danger, even harm. The mass-production of Hersheyââ¬â¢s and other chocolate companies have belittled the essence of pure chocolate of Belgium. Many people are more likely to agree with the old adage that says, ââ¬Å"Beware, chocolate is not good for you. Thus, there is some truth to this statement. Archeologists say that Olmecs, which is now Mexico, were a people who drank chocolate a thousand years before Christ. The Mayans, a very cultured race, were the first to create a sacred drink of cacao. The Mayans roasted and powdered the beans. They mixed it with chiles, herbs, and wild honey to produce a special beverage. The cacao drink was regarded as one of the most special drinks of the Mayan race, being saved for times of tribute. With all this historical strength behind cacao and chocolate, we can see that there is power in chocolate. Today, there are many types of chocolate, so the benefits depend almost entirely on what kind of chocolate that you choose to eat. Dark-chocolate-research has found evidence that it can help in building in a better heart and strengthening the cardiovascular system. Dr. Joseph Mercola, author of Total Health Program, was very skeptical when he first began to look at chocolate as a healthy snack. This skepticism might be most peopleââ¬â¢s initial reaction because itââ¬â¢s been ingrained into our minds from a very young age that although chocolate tastes great itââ¬â¢s not good for you. To further Dr. Mercolaââ¬â¢s skepticism, he found out that the basis of his secondary research came from a chocolate company. Dr. Mercola was concerned that this chocolate company was biased and merely attempting to reach consumers with a marketing technique to increase sales. The conflict of interest was too obvious. But his skepticism was soon diminished when he looked at some astounding scientific proof. In just the past seven years, there have been more and more independent confirmations that dark chocolate truly has health benefits. These confirmations, according to Dr. Mercola, appeared to establish a framework for strengthening the fact that there indeed are health rewards from eating small amounts of flavonoid-rich dark chocolate. Careful reflection and study of the birth of chocolate helps to clear the picture a bit further. Chocolate, as I mentioned, stems from the cacao bean. Trying to ingest pure cacao lead you spit it out due to its bitterness. The cacao, however, is a key ingredient surrounding dark chocolateââ¬â¢s health benefits. The missing ingredient of course is sugar. Sugar needs to be filtered in before chocolate can be regarded as such a luxury dessert that itââ¬â¢s matured into for society. There are hidden drawbacks to chocolate that must be remembered. For one, when shopping for dark chocolate keep in mind that many of the popular, processed brands readily available in markets and grocery stores are often contaminated with large amounts of lead. You must be wary of those Hersheyââ¬â¢s bars. Just as in most undertakings in life, moderation is the key. Dark chocolate consumption, when ingested in small amounts can actually be very good for you. Dr. Mercola wrote, ââ¬Å"It is important to keep in mind, however, that you can derive a majority of the benefits chocolate provides (via flavonols) by consuming fruits like blueberries, apples and grapes, and most all vegetables, including broccoli, greens and onions. This is obviously a method Dr. Mercola would prefer most people utilize instead of chocolate. Itââ¬â¢s been ingrained in our heads since infancy to ââ¬Å"eat your vegetables. â⬠Itââ¬â¢s easy to see why Mercola counters his discussion regarding chocolate-health by promotingââ¬âas an asideââ¬âthat you eat your vegetables, too. This is a wise promotionââ¬âespecially for a doctor wanting to maintain his reputation for the mass public and his patients. However, a bowl of broccoli doesnââ¬â¢t have the same rewards as a little dark-chocolate-sugar-boost every once in a while, particularly when you realize it is good for your heart. As I mentioned, when we consider dark chocolate as a moderating alternative, vegetables are boringââ¬âat least to the chocolate lover. Just remember, too much chocolate tips the scales toward disaster. So, if chocolate is something that makes you salivate then remember to follow some of these common sense rules: 1. Eat only dark chocolateââ¬âor organic, if you want to really streamline the healthy components of chocolate consumption. 2. Organic chocolate carries specific antioxidants that can shield the body from oxidative stress. 3. Do not eat chocolate if you are battling serious disease or ailments. According to scientific data, the Kuna Indians of Panama eat three to four cups of flavanol-rich cocoa daily. The main ingredient, epicatechin, is responsible for offering vascular health benefits to the Kuna Indians. When they drank certain cocoaââ¬âanother favored past-time of civilized nations around the worldââ¬âthey received higher levels of nitric oxide, where the flavanol was absorbed into the bloodstream. Lead contamination can be found in processed chocolateââ¬âsometimes extremely high quantities of lead. The concern of lead contaminants in chocolate is not new. There was great concern, in the past, over processed cocoa plants being contaminated by leaded gasoline. The source of additional contamination is unknown. It might have come during the shipping process or somewhere along the manufacturing lines in chocolate plants. As scary as it sounds, there is some evidence that points out that high blood-lead levels in children can result in learning disabilities, damage to a childââ¬â¢s brain processing, and loss of some memory skills. To counter this grave concern, further chocolate studies performed in two reputable scientific journals say dark chocolate is good for you, NOT white or milk or processed chocolate. Along with flavanol, there is evidence of other benefits. For one, flavonoids can raise levels of HDL cholesterol. This is beneficial cholesterol. It also acts as an antioxidant which protects human cells from free-radicals. Itââ¬â¢s these very radicals that can lead to aging, heart disease, and certain cancers. Plant phenol is another substance that can help individuals out by lowering blood pressure. The location of where chocolate is made is another important consideration. Chocolates that are made in Europe tend to be richer in cocoa phenols in comparison with cocoa in the United States. The United States, unfortunately, since the early 1900ââ¬â¢s chose to focus on mass production and not on getting the most of this luxurious cacao bean. Now that youââ¬â¢ve got a glimpse of the health benefits of dark chocolate, itââ¬â¢s important to remember this: Nothing is simple about good chocolate and you wonââ¬â¢t find it in most drug stores. In fact, if you ask some chocolate connoisseurs about it, theyââ¬â¢ll tell you that the term good chocolate was derived from palet or, which, when translated means ââ¬Å"pillow of gold. â⬠David Lebovitz, a pastry chef and chocolate connoisseur, is another fierce advocate for the fancy final product of unprocessed dark chocolate. He has developed some recipes such as an easy-to-prepare Red-Wine and Apple Tart? David offers over 100 recipes to tantalize the taste buds while keeping health at the forefront front of your dietary plans. In closing, itââ¬â¢s important to remember that good dark chocolate is available all over the world. Many European pastry chefs claim it is their artââ¬âand there is a lot of presence in Europeââ¬âbut there isnââ¬â¢t a code set to be cracked by the nationalities of Europe. It is a world-wide consumable. You just have to do a little research to find the true chocolate where you live. Also remember that the benefits of chocolate come from using common sense and following these simple guidelines: 1. Eat only dark chocolate; 2. Eat chocolate in moderation; 3 do not eat processed chocolate. Share this information with friends and loved ones as you add this delectable sweet to your health-conscious diet.
What are flexible HRM practices To what extent do such practices mark Essay
What are flexible HRM practices To what extent do such practices mark a break from Fordism and the era of mass production - Essay Example These negative features include hierarchy, standardization and an inward focus. This paper will discuss to what extent flexible HRM practices mark a break from Fordism and the era of mass production. The word flexibility itself means differently to different people. Having an employee-centered approach, not being authoritative, being anti-hierarchical, persuasive, or even empowering and considering the employees as equal stakeholders are some of the ways that ââ¬Ëflexibilityââ¬â¢ has been defined (Caldwell). Hence ââ¬Ëflexible HRM is not a norm which firms follow. It is a state of mind, and the practice itself varies from firm to firm. Within an organization also, flexibility provokes mixed reaction. While some consider flexibility an employee problem, the senior management thinks of it as a cost cutting strategy. The flexible approach has also led to the evolution of self-managed teams who work closely together to achieve greater horizontal coordination across organizational divisions. Marlow (1997) contends that in the UK few HRM initiatives that are being adopted are aimed at raising employee productivity without the return of rewards. Marlow further cites that the destruction of traditional style industrial relations and the lack of industrial policy articulated by the state have led to neo-Fordism. Hence, the flexible HR practices are used to induce the labor into higher productivity. It does not form a part of the larger process of post-Fordism. Since these are not supported by technology and training, these practices become unsustainable. Further arguments arise that flexible HR practices arise due to market volatility and labour weakness, and not due to sophisticated approach to labour management. While the Fordist regime may have had structural deficiencies, flexible HR practices will lead to difficulties in attracting, gaining and retaining a skilled workforce (Fuchs, 2002). Although employees are considered to

Film report - Movie Review Example ies of recordings of the interviews given by the various American Indians connected to the crime and Peltier, the film ââ¬Ëallowsââ¬â¢ the audience to make up their mind regarding whether Peltier is the real culprit or not. The interviews are inter cut with video shots of the landscape of Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota, where the crime takes place, as well as other video footages and the photos related to the issue. The film documents the killing of the FBI agents, Jack R. Coler and Ronald A. Williams in an Indian Reservation in South Dakota in 1975, by providing various perspectives. However, the perspective of FBI is not included as their representatives refused to give interview to the makers. The film starts of by depicting the tough and abysmal living conditions that existed, in the Pine Ridge Reservation. ââ¬Å"Pine Ridge was probably one of the poorest reservations of the United States.â⬠(ââ¬Å"Incident at Oglalaâ⬠). After those initial scenes, the film picks up stem by throwing more light on the background of the issue, as well as on the real stand-offs and the confrontations that took place between the AIM members (American Indian Movement) and the government authorities. Then, the film jumps directly into the crux of the matter. It uses witnesses and other experts to tell their version of events that took place on the day of the shootout. During these eyewitness accounts only, the doubts begun to surface in the minds of the viewers, whether Peltier truly committed the crime. Although, many American Indians were accused in the murder of the FBI agents, all of them were acquitted, with only Peltier being made the ââ¬Ëscapegoatââ¬â¢. That is, as can be gleaned from the witness accounts, when the FBI agents entered the compound wall, many individuals started firing on them and killed them. Peltier admitted to being a part in that gunfire confrontation with the agents, but denied the charge of killing the agents with his bullets. As mentioned above,

Causes of the American Revolution Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Causes of the American Revolution - Essay Example The thirteen states in North America had demonstrated the urge to be independent. In 1763, Britain won the Indian and French wars; however, it devastated the economic power of Great Britain necessitating it to pass laws to its colonies in order to raise funds1. In 1764, Great Britain passed the infamous sugar act. This act intended to increase taxes levied on sugar production. Unfortunately, the British colonies were not willing to pay taxes to representatives of the British regime. In 1765, the British parliament added more insult to the thirteen colonies by introducing the Stamp Act2. The act intended to collect taxes from printed materials. The aim the tax was to generate money that Great Britain could use to protect, defend, and secure its colonies. The colonist reacted vehemently to these laws arguing that they were not party to laws enacted without their participation. The people and the businesses in the thirteen states viewed the taxes as an extortion and control over their b usinesses. The Boston Massacre wounded the relationship between the Americans and the British. In 1770, the British troops did not succeed in quelling the colonists who had expressed their rejection to the colonial rule3. The incident led to the death of both British soldiers and the Americans. The incident spurred the reaction of the Americans in openly rejecting the British rule. The American people developed the urge to send their representative in the British parliament. The American community had been on the receiving end for a long time. The laws made by the British parliament did not address the interest of the Americans necessitating their cry for representation. It is arguable that the laws enacted and presented for adoption by the British colonies suppressed the interest of these states. The Tea Act enacted by British in 1773 granted British East India Company the opportunity to monopolistic activities in North America4. While the act intended to boost the economic status of the British owned company, the choice was hurting because it sought to give economic benefit to the colonist. The monopolistic policy did not only benefit the British owned company, but promoted economic ââ¬Å"crimesâ⬠to the Americans. The Americans had no choice in influencing the prices of their tea an act that they did not accept. Another spectacular event that took place in 1773 was Boston Tea party. Colonist disguised as the Indians participated in dumping tea overboard from ships at the Boston Harbor. This act met vehement reaction because it did not plunder the tea trade but also wounded the trade relationship. In 1774 the colonist closed the Boston Harbor and outlawed meeting that the American held in towns. The passing of the intolerable acts in 1774 received contrasting response from the thirteen states. Twelve out of the thirteen states met in Philadelphia in the same year, September to October. The resolution of the meeting was to reject products from Britain. The boycott was an economic spat because it influenced the production of the British industries. British suffered because America was one of the chief consumers of her products. It is also arguable that the economic power that it derived from trade was instrumental in influencing its interest in the colonial territories. In 1775, British troops visited Concord
